Today, the development of a financialisation process has been one of most exciting changes in energy market. Recent studies have naturally evolved into a common research area – named ‘energy finance’ – which is attracting a growing interest among academic researchers worldwide and becoming a new hotspot of research in the area of both energy and finance.
China Energy Finance Network (CEFN, www.cnefn.com) was established in 2017 to facilitate deep collaborations among researchers in China and across the world, and has become an active platform contributing to research in energy finance. Organised by CEFN in conjunction with the Institutes of Science and Development, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economic Mathematics, and the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, in April 2018, the two-day International Conference on Energy Finance (ICEF 2018) was held in Beijing, China.
A total of 108 submissions were accepted for presentation, the papers being divided across 18 sessions covering broad topics. From the papers presented, we invited twenty-two, based on their quality and relevance, to be submitted to the special issue of Energy Economics. Ten of these were finally accepted and published in the special issue on “Energy finance: Frontiers and future development”.
