2020 International Conference on Energy Finance

The “2020 International Conference on Energy Finance” (ICEF 2020) was held online from 24 to 25 October, 2020. Conference organizers are China Energy Finance Network, the Chinese Society of Optimization, Overall Planning and Economical Mathematics, and China University of Petroleum (East China). More than 400 scholars from over 70 universities participated in the conference and discussed cutting-edge issues in the field of energy finance, focusing on the conference theme “Global Climate Governance and Energy Finance: Challenges and Opportunities”.   

Climate negotiations and energy price fluctuations in 2020 have exerted profound influences on the on-going construction of global climate governance and energy finance systems, bringing inspirations, opportunities as well as significant challenges to research related to climate governance and energy finance. This conference seeks to promote innovative research and disciplinary development in the field of domestic energy finance, help scholars at home and abroad seize the opportunities and meet the challenges arising from the profound changes in the world energy landscape, as well as deepen exchanges and cooperation.  

Conference keynote speeches were given by Professor Shouyang Wang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Dabo Guan, Distinguished Professor of Climate Change Economics at Tsinghua University and Fellow of Academy of Social Sciences, UK. Professor Wang presented a new trading strategy model which is believed to have broad application prospects. Professor Guan introduced the China Emission Accounts and Datasets (CEADs) and discussed the challenges of climate change in the post-pandemic era.  

In the editor forum, editors of Energy Economics, Energy Policy, Finance Research Letters, Energy, Ecology and Environment, Chinese Journal of Management Science, and Innovation jointly gave advices on topic selection, journal preference, turnaround time, and other issues related to getting published in these journals, and welcomed and encouraged submissions from conference participants.

In the following sub-sessions, conference participants actively joined in the discussions covering 22 topics with focuses on climate and carbon finance, climate change economics, energy market systemic risk modeling, green technology innovation, green finance and investment, deep decarbonization, energy company finance, sustainable consumption, and data-driven energy environment modeling. 

The closing ceremony was hosted by Professor Qiang Ji, chair of the conference scientific committee. Professor Ji announced the eight best papers selected from the 186 papers submitted to the conference. Professor Boqiang Lin, Dean of the China Energy Policy Research Institute of Xiamen University, extended a cordial invitation to the conference participants to participate in the 2021 ICEF conference at Xiamen University.
